Job Title: Payroll & Accounts Payable Accountant

Position Summary

We’re looking for a detail-driven, dependable Payroll & Accounts Payable Accountant to own two of the most critical back-office functions in the business: making sure our people get paid accurately and on time, and ensuring vendors are paid correctly and efficiently. This role is responsible for full-cycle payroll processing, accounts payable management, vendor communication, and supporting the accounting team with accurate financial records and reporting.

The right person for this role is organized, proactive, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment where accuracy, confidentiality, and follow-through matter.

Key Responsibilities

  • Payroll Administration

-Process weekly and/or bi-weekly payroll accurately and on time

-Review and verify employee timecards, hours, pay rates, deductions, and adjustments

-Maintain payroll records, employee earnings, garnishments, deductions, and benefits with strict confidentiality

-Coordinate with HR and department managers on employee changes, onboarding, terminations, and pay updates

-Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll laws and reporting requirements

-Prepare payroll reports and assist with quarterly and year-end payroll filings, including W-2s and related reconciliations

-Respond to employee payroll questions in a timely and professional manner

  • Accounts Payable

-Manage full-cycle accounts payable processing, including invoice entry, coding, approvals, and payment processing

-Review invoices for accuracy, proper documentation, and coding before payment

-Match invoices to purchase orders, receipts, and supporting documentation

-Process vendor payments via check, ACH, and other approved methods

-Maintain vendor records, including W-9s, certificates of insurance, and payment terms

-Reconcile vendor statements and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner

-Communicate with vendors regarding payment status, billing questions, and account issues

-Assist with 1099 preparation and year-end vendor reporting

-Accounting & Administrative Support

-Assist with month-end close by preparing account reconciliations and payroll/AP support schedules

-Maintain organized digital and physical accounting records

-Support internal controls and process improvement efforts across payroll and AP functions

-Assist Controller/CFO with special projects, reporting, and administrative accounting support

-Cross-train with other accounting and administrative functions as needed

Qualifications

-Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field preferred

-3+ years of experience in payroll, accounts payable, or general accounting

-Strong understanding of payroll processes, tax withholdings, and AP workflows

-Experience with accounting and payroll software (ERP experience preferred)

-Strong Excel skills and comfort working with spreadsheets and reporting

-High attention to detail with strong organizational and time management skills

-Ability to manage sensitive information with professionalism and confidentiality

-Strong communication skills and ability to work across departments

-Construction or job-cost accounting experience is a plus
