Medical open end verbatim coder having experience working on ascribe

Role Description This is a full-time/Part-time, remote role for a Medical Open-End Verbatim Coder with experience in ascribe functions. The coder will review and interpret open-end survey responses and medical narratives, applying standardized medical and custom client code frames with a high level of accuracy.

Daily tasks include assigning appropriate medical and non-medical codes, validating coding consistency, and updating or refining code lists based on project needs. The role involves close collaboration with project managers and quality reviewers to clarify coding rules, ensure adherence to study guidelines, and support timely project delivery. The coder will also document coding decisions, flag potential adverse events or safety-related information, and contribute to process improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated coding experience, especially with open-end verbatim responses and ascribe platforms or similar coding tools.
  • Foundational knowledge in Health Information Management.
  • Strong grasp of Medical Terminology and Medical Coding principles, with the ability to interpret clinical language and patient-reported information.
  • Ability to maintain high levels of accuracy, attention to detail, and consistency in repetitive coding tasks.
  • Comfort working with large datasets, spreadsheets, and basic data management tools.
  • Effective written communication skills and the ability to follow detailed coding guidelines and protocols.
  • Proven ability to work independently in a remote environment, manage time effectively, and meet tight deadlines.
  • Prior experience in healthcare research, pharmacovigilance, market research coding, or adverse event identification is an advantage.
  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in science, healthcare, life sciences, or related field preferred, or equivalent practical experience.
