Legal Externships and Apprenticeships (For Academic/Bar Credit) – Summer 2026

ArtWorks Legal Incubator (New York City / Remote and Hybrid)
ArtWorks Legal Incubator, an international nonprofit legal organization, is seeking 2L, 3L, and LL.M. law students for its Summer 2026 Legal Externship Program.
This position is designed for hands-on experience:
- in a supervised legal practice environment
- working closely with an attorney to gain practical exposure to intellectual property and business law
- focused on creative and entrepreneurial industries
This summer’s projects include:
- drafting proposals for publication
- preparing trademark and copyright submissions to the USPTO, USCO, WIPO, etc.
- supporting clients across North America and internationally.
Overview
This program complements academic coursework by providing experiential learning opportunities in the following practice areas:
- Intellectual property law
- Business law
- General counsel
Qualifications
- Law graduate or student enrolled in a J.D. or LL.M. program
- Eligible to receive academic credit
- Demonstrated interest in IP or business law
- Strong interest in legal research and writing
- Excellent communication skills
- Highly organized, detail-oriented
- Professional, reliable, and motivated to learn in a collaborative environment
Program Details
Term: Summer 2026
Commitment: Minimum 15 hours per week
Schedule: Flexible, coordinated with academic requirements and program needs
Format: Remote with optional in-person opportunities in New York City
Compensation: Unpaid; this program meets academic credit and bar-related clinical hours requirements

ArtWorks Legal Incubator is a non-profit organization that has openings for unpaid internships (opportunities for credit) for the Summer 2026 semester for 2L, 3L law students as well as LLM candidates. Through our internship and externship programs, students will gain valuable insight into practicing law in the areas of intellectual property, business, and corporate law. The internship will include educational assignments in various areas of law, such as fashion, entertainment, visual arts, technology, business, and corporate law.
With clients primarily throughout North America and does some business internationally, it assists entertainers, authors, entrepreneurs, inventors, musicians, fashion designers, charities and individuals/entities seeking intellectual property protection, and litigation.
Our law firm is located in New York City successful candidates are expected to be available for remote assignments a minimum of 15 hours per week. This is an unpaid position with the possibility of school credit and future employment opportunities. The desired candidate is looking to grow as a part of the team. Only students interested in working for the firm following the internship need apply.
