We are seeking a full-time Lead Environmental Health and Safety Specialist at Garmin's U.S. headquarters in the Greater Kansas City area. In this role, you will be responsible for leading development, implementation and maintenance of Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) programs, initiatives and processes to ensure a safe and healthy work environment and compliance with applicable standards and regulations.
Essential Functions
Serve as a key contributor and/or leader in the development, execution and continuous improvement of EHS programs, leveraging expertise to develop and implement effective, scalable solutions for the organization
Develop EHS policies, processes and procedures, ensuring strategic alignment with organizational objectives and regulatory requirements, standards and best practices
Lead Environmental and/or Health & Safety management system certification efforts, providing technical expertise and guidance to ensure compliance with ISO 14001 and/or ISO 45001
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to proactively identify, assess and mitigate EHS risks across the organization
Monitor federal, state, and local government for changes in EHS regulations and other requirements that may affect business activities and make recommendations based on risk to leadership
Drive strategic approach for incident investigations, oversee high-impact investigations, and implement organization-wide corrective actions and continuous improvement initiatives
Lead audits and inspections by regulatory agencies and other external parties, drive the development and implementation of corrective actions and improvement plans, and ensure ongoing compliance and continuous improvement
Responsible for coordination and timely completion of all EHS regulatory recordkeeping and reporting requirements
Develop and maintain EHS metrics and leverage data to identify trends, risks and improvement opportunities
Serve as subject matter expert on EHS principals, programs, processes and systems and provide functional and technical support to global sites as required
Design and implement targeted EHS training programs and materials and conduct training sessions for associates as required
Lead complex, ambiguous initiatives with lacking precedent, creating and executing actionable implementation plans
Drive continuous improvement of EHS project management processes through the development and enhancement of tools and applications that support planning, execution, and activity tracking
Mentor and train less experienced EHS Specialists
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Health and Safety or a related Health or Safety field AND a minimum of 9 years environment health and safety work experience performing a role substantially similar to the essential functions of this job description OR an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
Must possess strong knowledge of EHS regulations, standards and practices, including OSHA, EPA, federal and state regulations
Demonstrated knowledge of ISO 14001 and/or ISO 45001 standards and certifications processes
Must possess demonstrated leadership skills
Must possess demonstrated project management experience relevant to Garmin's business needs for performing the essential functions of this role
Must be familiar with and possess a working knowledge of manufacturing and/or warehouse processes relevant for successful performance of this role
Demonstrated advanced issue and risk identification and mitigation skills
Demonstrated ability to develop reliable, scalable solutions to complex problems
Demonstrated excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence strategies and objectives
Must be detail-oriented and can work proactively and effectively with minimal supervision while exercising sound judgment
Must demonstrate a high level of professionalism and ability to manage confidential company matters
Demonstrated advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
Desired Qualifications
Master’s Degree in environmental health and safety
Health and Safety or Environmental related certifications (e.g. Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM))
Hazard analysis experience
Previous supervisory experience or demonstrated experience in leading, training, mentoring, and/or developing other team members
