## Correctional Officer (Central Region - NC) The North Carolina Department of Adult Correction is hiring Correctional Officers to join a large state agency responsible for the care, custody, and supervision of adults sentenced under North Carolina law. We are seeking individuals committed to public safety and offering a career path with a new Step Pay Plan approved by the NC Legislature that provides competitive starting salaries and guaranteed annual increases based on each year of experience as a North Carolina Correctional Officer. You will be responsible for ensuring the care, custody, and control of offenders and performing general security duties to prevent escape, disorder, rule infractions, and harm to offenders, visitors, and staff. Typical duties include searching offenders, visitors, cells, and other areas for weapons and contraband; maintaining and recording offender counts and cell assignments; escorting offenders within and outside the institution; supervising offender work details; identifying offenders with behavioral, medical, or other problems so that appropriate safety and security measures may be taken; and observing offender activity in person and on closed-circuit monitors. Specific security duties vary by post-assignment. Salary ranges by classification are listed below and reflect the Step Pay Plan: - Correctional Officer I (Minimum): Salary Range: $32,639 -$57,117; Salary Grade: NC05 - Correctional Officer II (Medium): Salary Range: $34,270 - $59,973; Salary Grade: NC06 - Correctional Officer III (Close): Salary Range: $35,984 - 62,971; Salary Grade: NC07 All hires are eligible for a $3,000 Sign on Bonus. Additionally, positions are eligible for an employee referral bonus program ($1,000). This posting supports facilities across the Central Region; counties served include: Alamance County, NC; Caswell County, NC; Chatham County, NC; Durham County, NC; Edgecombe County, NC; Franklin County, NC; Granville County, NC; Guilford County, NC; Nash County, NC; Orange County, NC; Person County, NC; Randolph County, NC; Rockingham County, NC; Vance County, NC; Wake County, NC; Warren County, NC; Wilson County, NC. Employees must adhere to an appearance and grooming standard. Once hired, you will be required to attend six weeks of Basic Correctional Officer Training (BCOT). Training is held during specific time frames throughout the year which will require you to stay overnight at a training facility, with weekends at home. Room and board are provided for. Transportation can be available upon request. Work schedules vary. Full-time officers must be able to work any shift including rotating, fixed shift, or split shift; all shifts may include days, nights, weekends, holidays, and mandatory overtime as required. Part-time options (24 to 32 hours a week maximum) are available at any facility and may include flexible shift coverage, holidays, and weekends. Available part-time shift options include: Four- six (6) hour days per week OR Four- eight (8) hour days per week OR Two twelve (12) hour days per week. If no qualified candidates meet minimum Education and Experience or Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities, the agency may consider a trainee appointment. Salary for a trainee may be set at a lower level than the listed classification salary range and adjusted up according to state policy as the trainee obtains the necessary additional education and experience. Minimum education and experience requirements (or equivalent combination of education and experience) are as follows: - Trainee Appointment For All Classifications: High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma OR An equivalent combination of education and experience. - Correctional Officer I: High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma OR An equivalent combination of education and experience. - Correctional Officer II: High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and one year of experience as a Correctional Officer OR An equivalent combination of education and experience. - Correctional Officer III: High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of experience as a Correctional Officer OR An equivalent combination of education and experience. Necessary special qualifications for all classifications: Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.
