Busser - Part-time

Shift: between 5:30 AM – 6:30 PM

Position Summary:

The Busser is responsible for setting up, maintaining, and cleaning the breakfast area. This role ensures that all food items are fresh, presented attractively, and replenished promptly. At the same time, clearing, cleaning and maintaining the guests' tables. The busser provides friendly, courteous service to guests, ensuring a positive start to their day.

Key Responsibilities:

Breakfast Setup & Maintenance:

  • Set up, prepare and maintain the buffet, including beverages, hot and cold food, utensils, and condiments.
  • Ensure food is properly labelled and stored as per the local health codes and to specification, in a clean and organized manner.
  • Monitor food levels and restock promptly to prevent shortages during breakfast hours.
  • Ensure the breakfast buffet is appealingly presented to standard and maintained throughout the entire service period.
  • Ensure the dining room is cleaned, set up and maintained through the breakfast period.

Guest Service:

  • Greet guests warmly with a smile, creating memorable guest experiences. Happily, respond to questions about food items, hotel amenities, or local attractions. Following the Portico guest service standards.
  • Always maintain a friendly and helpful attitude.
  • Assist guests with special requests (e.g., dietary restrictions, to-go containers, etc.).
  • Clean and bus guest tables once the guests have finished dining.
  • Professionally handle guest inquiries and complaints.
  • When a special dietary / allergy request is received from a guest, please inform your Supervisor / General Manager to make sure the request is fulfilled.

Cleanliness & Sanitation:

  • Follow all local food safety and hygiene standards, including proper food handling and temperature control.
  • Keep the kitchen, buffet area, restaurant and service stations clean, sanitized, and hygienic, following the local health board guidelines.
  • Clean and sanitize breakfast area, tables, counters, floors, and food prep equipment before, during, and after service.
  • Ensure all fridges, freezers and storage areas are cleaned and maintained as per local health code.
  • Record fridge and dishwashing machines temperatures at least 3 days per shift.
  • Reset and clean the dining room and buffet area for the next day.
  • Dispose of trash and recycling as needed.

End-of-Shift Duties:

  • Properly store unused food items.
  • Break down the buffet, clean equipment, and prepare the area for the next day.
  • Communicate any inventory or maintenance needs to management.
  • Set the restaurant and the breakfast buffet and prep fully for the next day's service.
  • Restock food and supplies as needed.
  • Maintain inventory and records of food, supplies and equipment.
  • Performing other duties as assigned by Director of Operations, General Manager.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous customer service or food service experience is a plus.
  • Ability to work independently and in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and cleanliness.
  • Must be able to stand for extended periods and lift to 30 lbs.
  • Reliable and punctual; early morning availability required.
  • Basic understanding of food safety and sanitation standards (training may be provided).
