OW HIRING · K-12 · FULLY REMOTE · COAST TO COAST

One student. One teacher. Real learning.

Pacific Preparatory is a Cognia-accredited K-12 virtual school built around one idea: every student deserves a teacher who actually knows them.

The role

We are looking for educators who want flexible, hourly remote work and who have the availability and the commitment to build a genuine caseload of students over time. We provide both tutoring and teaching opportunities to help build your caseload, as we also offer a robust after-school and summer tutoring program.

At Pacific Prep, you will teach one-on-one, and you will receive an individualized syllabus for each student, a working draft we build specifically for that learner that you take and make your own. We mail you the books and hands-on materials directly, so you are never buying curriculum or building lessons from scratch. You bring the relationship, the instincts, and the craft, and we take care of the rest.

Our students span K-12, and most instructors specialize in a subject area, a grade band, or both. Within your area of expertise, you will work with a range of students and learning profiles, and the role asks you to stay curious about the individual in front of you, whether that is a third grader building foundational reading skills or a twelfth grader finishing coursework before a gap year. You will get to know very different kids within your subject area, and that variety is a feature of this job, not a side effect of it.

We hold a high standard on both sides of this role, the teaching and the follow-through, which means being responsive to families, completing session notes and admin on time, and showing up prepared. We will give you everything you need to meet that standard, and we ask you to actually meet it.

Who we are looking for

We hire on a rolling basis and are always looking to add excellent educators to our roster. Here is who we are looking for.

  • A former classroom teacher, professor, curriculum writer, or long-term private instructor who is ready for something more flexible and more remote, including credentialed teachers with current or expired teaching credentials.
  • Someone with at least 15 hours of open availability Monday through Friday, whether during school hours, after-school hours, or both, who is ready to fill that time with a growing caseload of students.
  • A person who cares about doing excellent work and follows through on all of it: the teaching, the admin, and the ongoing relationship with each student and family.
  • Genuine comfort with learner variability, including gifted students, students with learning differences, and students navigating complex circumstances, and a real belief that knowing each student individually is the most important part of the job.
  • Background in AP courses, AP exams, standardized test prep (SAT, ACT, SSAT, ISEE, HSTP), and Executive Functioning support is ideal for educators wanting to join our tutoring program.
  • Experience working with students with learning differences is strongly preferred, and candidates with special education credentials or structured literacy training are especially encouraged to apply.
  • Curiosity about reading new books and working through new subjects, including a willingness to learn the material right alongside your students when it is unfamiliar to you.
  • A bachelor's degree or higher and at least two years of teaching or instructional experience.
  • Confidence on Zoom and with digital tools, because you work from home and you know how to make it feel like a classroom.

What we offer

  • Starting rates at $25+ per hour for 100% remote work with biannual raise cycles and regular opportunities for bonuses. Select in person opportunities in SF Bay Area and LA.
  • Paid prep time.
  • Individualized syllabi and all student materials provided, including books, hands-on supplies, and resources mailed directly to you at no cost.
  • We handle all student matching and billing so you can focus on teaching.
  • Professional development, coaching, and ongoing support from our academic team. We are invested in you as a teacher, not just in filling your schedule.
  • A community of educators who are doing the same kind of work and understand what it involves.
  • Growth potential: instructors who perform well receive regular raises, and long-tenured teachers can earn $3,000 or more per month.

What to expect

Pacific Preparatory is a school, not a marketplace. You will have dedicated students, ongoing relationships, and a team behind you. Your schedule can include for-credit courses, academic tutoring, or a mix of both, and we will work with you to build a caseload that fits your availability and your strengths. What we are looking for is educators who are ready to show up consistently for their students, and who bring the same standard to every session whether it is a formal course or a tutoring engagement. If that sounds like you, we want to hear from you.
